    Day E

    Main Office

    A reminder to grade 12 students that the $60 graduation fee is due at the main office by Friday, June 3rd. Tickets will be issued at this time and we will also take requests for additional tickets.

     

    Europe Trip

    There are still spaces available on the Holocaust in Europe trip for March Break 2017.   If you are interested in learning more about the trip, stop by Ms. Campbell's room, 208, on your free time, to learn more.

     

    Students participating in the WWI Symposium on June 10 are asked to meet in Ms, Campbell's room today, at the beginning of lunch, for a brief but important meeting.  See Ms. Campbell if you cannot attend.

     

    WWI history buffs are encouraged to attend a WWI public history and archaeology symposium being held here in Windsor, from June 10-11.  Speakers from all over the country will be attending this two-day event, and members of the public are welcome to attend.  If you would like more information about what the symposium has to offer, see Ms. Campbell, in room 208, for more details.

     

    Student Services

    Summer employment opportunities are available with the Rotary Club of Windsor at Camp Mockingee in Upper Vaughans for two full time students who intend to return to school or other educational facility on a full time basis in the next academic year.  Further details are at Student Services and on the Student Services website under Student Opportunities.  Application deadline is June 5.

     

    Adrian Campbell Scholarship

    Application to the Adrian Campbell Scholarship Fund Association is open to any Nova Scotian student completing grade 12 and entering a post-secondary educational program.  Preference will be given to a student from Hants or Kings County.  The amount of the scholarship is $1500.00 and the applications should be received on or before May 30.  Further details and scholarship applications can be found by visiting the Student Services website and clicking on Money Matters.

     

    Hantsport and District Lions Club Bursary

    Hantsport and District Lions Club will award a bursary of $200.00 to a student entering post secondary studies in the Fall.  Preference will be given to applicants with some community volunteer service.  Applications may be picked up at Student Services and the deadline is June 3, 2016.

     

    Brooklyn Fire Department Bursary

    Applications for the Brooklyn Fire Department Bursary are at Student Services.  This $500 bursary will be awarded to support a student in his/her post-secondary studies.  In order to be considered for this award, you must be a member of the Brooklyn Fire Department or a Junior Fire Department Member or a child or grandchild of an existing member, veteran or auxiliary member.  You must also be in financial need.  Applications need to be passed in to Student Services no later than June 3 at 3:30.

     

    Johnson Scholarships

    Johnson Inc. is proud to offer 50 scholarships, valued at $1000 each to students completing high school in 2016 and starting post-secondary education in the fall.  Application deadline:  August 31, 2016.  For eligibility citeria visit http://www.johnson.ca/scholarship.

    WE ACT

    We Act is also selling picture CDs of Avon View's presentation of Footloose. Picture CD's (of more than 400 pictures) are available for $5. These can be purchased in room 102, from Mme Connors. All proceeds from disc sales will be donated to the Me to We Clean Water Initiative in Nicaragua.

    Europe Trip

    Avon View's annual Car show will be held this Friday, May 27th. Anyone wishing to participate in the show needs to see Ms. Chance in room 204 to register, any time before Friday. 

    The weather is predicted to be good and there will be tone of fun and prizes. Get your ride shined up and come out and show it off.

    Brass Ensemble will rehearse tomorrow at the beginning of lunch.

    Holland College - Atlantic Police Academy Information Session

    Atlantic Police Academy is holding an information session on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Marriott (former Delta), 1990 Barrington Street, Halifax, from 6 to 9 pm.  A representative from the Atlantic Police Academy will be pleased to answer any questions about the following programs:  Basic Firefighting, Conservation Enforcement, Correctional Officer, Police Science (cadet) and Sheriff and Public Safety Officer.

    Sports

    I would like to congratulate the Track and Field team on their superb performance at the District Track and Field meet this past weekend at Acadia University setting 2 new district meet records!  Noah James won the Intermediate boys 100 meter hurdles and set a new district record, our Intermediate boys’ 4 by 100 meter relay team  consisting of Caleb Hamilton, Justin MacDonald, Noah James and Tyler Eddy also won 1st place and set a new district record.  Other athletes who achieved first place finishes were Natalie Rippey who won both the senior girls long jump and the senior girls triple jump and Ryan Hebb who won the senior boys long jump.  We have 15 athletes going on to represent Avon View at the Western Region Track and Field Championships at Acadia this weekend. Good luck to all of our athletes!

     There will be a meeting for all track and field athletes today at 11:05am in room 105 and there will be a track practice at Acadia after school today at 4:30 pm.
